IELTS
IELTS also known as the 'International Language Testing System', is an international standardised test to test the English Language proficiency of non-native English language speakers. IELTS, is one of the major English Language tests in the world with over 2 million IELTS tests taken every year.
Two main versions of IELTS include:
Academic: This is taken by student's interested in higher education in English speaking countries.
General: This is taken by those planning to have work experience or immigration purpose.
Apart , from these the new IELTS Life Skills test has been introduced for those who want to apply for a settlement visa or indefinite leave to remain in the U.K. The applicants need to prove their English language speaking and listening skills at Common European Framework of reference for language (CEFR) level A1 or B1 for this visa.
IELTS is mostly accepted by Australia, Canada, Britain , New Zealand and many institutes in U.S.
Test structure :- The IELTS test has four parts
1.Listening (30 minutes)
2. Reading (60 minutes)
3. Writing (60 minutes)
4. Speaking (11-14 minutes).
Bands : IELTS bands range from 1-9 .Below is an explanation if what band means
Band 9: Expert user , with fluency and understanding in language
Band 8: Very good user, with misunderstanding in unfamiliar situations.
Band 7: Good user, with command on the language and reasoning.
Band 6: Competent user, can understand and utilise command of language in familiar situations.
Band 5:Modest user, able to handle basic communication.
Test results are valid for two years and no less than 6.0 Band score is accepted at Universities.
